Hey everyone 👋🏾
I’ve been going on weekly Saturday morning park runs 🏃🏾 (5km) with some of my friends in medical school for a month or so now and I’ve found it to be an amazing experience.
I think there are two key lessons that you can apply to your own life:
Every time I get to around the 3km mark during the park run, I find myself getting extremely tired (not a good sign for my fitness lol) and feeling like I want to quit. Often, the only thing that keeps me going is the fact that there are 3-4 other people running with me who will leave me behind if I stop.
Even though I could run 5km by myself if I wanted, the experience of doing it with other people makes process much more manageable.
This isn’t a groundbreaking revelation, but I think that we don’t apply accountability to our own lives enough considering how powerful it is.
I am guilty of trying to do everything alone when it would be much easier to do alongside others. I’ll be trying to reach out to my friends more to study and work, especially when exams approach towards the end of the year.
The second reason park runs have been so beneficial is because they allow me to start my Saturday mornings with something productive. The run usually starts at 8am, and I’m often given the feeling that I’m doing something not many people would do.
I don’t mean this in a pretentious, I’m better than others kind of way, but it gives me a sense of personal satisfaction and pride that I’m able to start my weekend doing something to better myself.
This satisfaction follows through to the rest of my weekend. Weekends are often my time to work on things that I’ve been putting on the back burner for the week (Youtube, reflecting, this newsletter) and I find that I’m able to approach these tasks with more enthusiasm and enjoyment.
So, if you’ve got a local park run, I’d highly recommend you give it a go and see the benefits for yourself! If you’re in Melbourne, reply back and maybe we can even do one together!

In the video that I posted last week, I talked about a method of doing practice questions that allows you to learn more from practice questions to get better marks. This involves a bit more initial work. You need to mark every question with a confidence score and review each of the questions with low confidence so that your confidence improves over time. You invest some time studying the topic of the questions you don’t know much about, and that enables you to improve your knowledge and...
Hey everyone! Perfectionism is a silent killer, but there are several ways to break through it. The signs of perfectionism are often insidious and easily missed. They can manifest in every aspect of your life, and can lead to feelings of stagnation In this newsletter I’ll share how I recognise perfectionism in my life and some strategies to overcome it. In medicine, I notice perfectionism the most when I’m targeting areas I know I’m weaker in, like metabolic derangements for example. I’ll...
Hey everyone, Happy Easter! I’ve been in a bit of a productivity rut recently. I have been slightly sick, quite busy and a bit behind on many different projects, meaning that I have felt quite overwhelmed. While preventing burnout is one of my core mantras, it’s sometimes inevitable that this happens. When it does, I think journaling is one of the most powerful techniques to help you escape a slump. I’ll explain why in this newsletter 👇 This morning, I sat down and decided that I needed to do...
